Ecommerce as it is commonly known as stands for electronic commerce and comprises of buying and selling of goods and services via the internet and other computer networks. In simpler words it is commerce conducted electronically. The transactions are negotiated and finalized over the internet itself and even the payments can be done electronically. Its various advantages have promoted the development of ecommerce websites and ecommerce companies. It involves the widespread use of email, instant messaging, newsgroups, online shopping, online banking, electronic tickets, payment systems etc.

A person who is appointed to do the analysis of these kinds of business transactions is an ecommerce analyst. Their demand is increasing due to a rapid rise in such transactions across the globe and also due to the increased competition between ecommerce companies to attract the maximum customers.

Job Profile / Description / Responsibilities

An ecommerce analyst has to do a lot of things. He holds a responsible post and his views carry a lot of weight and can prove helpful for making business decisions. His job responsibilities are as follows:
  • Collecting information about the market and suggesting new ideas to attract the maximum customers.
  • Doing detailed scrutiny of new proposals.
  • Coordinating and participating in the new projects to improve them and making changes when needed.
  • Developing the system to promote the marketing and sales of the company's products and services.
  • Working together with the other team members to achieve the company's goals.
  • Acting as a link and assisting communication between the business and the customers for the company's benefit
  • An ecommerce marketing analyst is responsible for collecting and analyzing data to evaluate business prospects for existing and potential online markets.
  • One can use various methods of tracking applications to recognize user patterns to help formulate better marketing techniques.
  • Ecommerce analysis also deals with understanding human behavior and requirements to be able to analyze why the customers have or have not bought a particular good or service.
Requirements

Academic

Candidates need to have a degree in marketing and business administration which helps in honing the analytical skills. The minimum qualification that most employers seek is a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or the particular technical field in question. For advanced designations like that of an ecommerce marketing manager a Master's Degree would be necessary.

Skill Set

For the post of e-business analysis a person should primarily have good business acumen and analytical skills.

Other necessary skills would be:
  • Good communication skills along with project presentation and management knowledge.
  • Thorough knowledge about the workings of ecommerce business.
  • Clear and updated views of the financial market with an ability to take work related financial decisions.
  • Good marketing sense of the company's products and services.
  • Ability to understand the consumer's needs to be able to deliver the company's goals.
Training

Other than relevant academic qualifications, knowledge in the filed of information technology is a necessary criteria which can be fulfilled through training. Ample training in courses of computer science and applied engineering may be considered.

Prior Experience

Prior work experience in the field at any other level helps to understand the work standards. Prior experience of working with Internet computer applications and e-commerce software programs along with a familiarity of C++ or Java can be a huge beneficial factor. Previous experience of computer interfaces designing is another plus point. This particular job also demands a little experience in marketing management as well.
