We are seeking a Product Taxonomist that will play a critical role in the on-going evolution and execution of the Enterprise Product Management team as we continue to evolve our capabilities. This individual will be a strategist, researcher, and implementation expert for data schemas for both internal and consumer-facing platforms.
What is the Product Taxonomist responsible for?
The Product Taxonomist is responsible for the creation, renovation and continuous improvement of the Best Buy product data structure and attribute database. You will be designing, editing, and optimizing taxonomies. Taxonomies are specific types of structured terms in a simple hierarchy or term sets used for organizing, indexing, and retrieving content. This role acts as Subject Matter Expert for the data structure, its definitions, and its usage. You will prioritize and develop work plans around current initiatives, consult on current tool capabilities, and advocate for future needs. You will regularly partner cross-functionally to support Best Buy’s product data quality goals and help deliver world-class customer experiences.
Specific areas of ownership and impact:
Data Structures that Product Research:
Researches, designs, implements, and continuously improves the product data architecture through customer research, usage analytics and cross-functional partnerships. Ability to translate customer analytics or other business use cases into good taxonomy design. Serves as a primary contributor to, and coordinator of, the collaborative review of product data schemas with Merchandising, Online Category Managers, vendors, Online Search, SEO Management, Product Information, and other business partners
Demonstrated ability to manage projects and communicate clearly with partner teams to leverage schema and create a best-in-class customer experience
Project Management:
through partnering with project leaders and stakeholders to determine data needs, requirements, and timelines. Create communication plans that inform relevant audiences of progression and relevant updates.
Process/System Enhancement and Support:
Validates and analyzes proposed system and business process changes to ensure alignment across interdependent process & system ecosystem. Additionally, partner cross-functionally to address issues and enhancements. Helps maintain a knowledge repository of taxonomy definitions, processes and supporting tools.

Basic Qualifications
2 years of experience in Retail, E-Commerce or Merchandising for online
Ability to think strategically and logically in the face of complex problems and urgent challenges
Demonstrated experience in requirements gathering, analysis, design, development, validation, and successful implementation of projects of various sizes and complexities
Strong project management and project facilitation skills
Ability to manage diverse business relationships, including senior leadership and external vendors
Ability to adhere to strict governance and reporting processes
History of making strategic decisions with ambiguous data
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or above
Experience with Taxonomy or Ontology management software and processes
3 years of communication planning OR basic project management
2 years of experience utilizing analytical data skills with the ability to turn data into actionable information
Basic understanding of query languages and relational databases
